How To Remove Deep Stains From Ceramic Floor Tile

Ceramic tile is a durable and beautiful addition to any home. It is available in a large assortment of colors and styles – as a homeowner, you are sure to find at least one style/color you adore.

However, just as with any other type of flooring, ceramic tile must be taken care of to prevent discoloration. Ceramic tile can be stained, and these stains can make your gorgeous floor look less than appealing. There is a way to remove deep stains from a ceramic tile floor – with the use of citric acid and other ingredients.

  • To get started on removing deep stains from a ceramic floor tile, begin with about 1 ½ gallons of hot water.
  • Add 1 cup of citric acid to the hot water.
  • Pour the mixture on the area of the floor that is stained – or over the entire floor for a thorough cleaning. [Read more…]

Tiles are an excellent choice for flooring.  Boasting low maintenance, durability, and a great diversity of appearances; tile flooring is an excellent choice for a variety of flooring needs.  If you are considering tile flooring, here are a few basic concepts you will want to know.

Types of tile – There are two basic types of tile: ceramic and natural stone.  Ceramic tiles are made from clay and fired in a kiln.  Natural stone tiles as the name implies, are segments of natural stones such as marble and granite.

Ceramic tiles

There are a wide variety of ceramic tiles to suite a wide variety of needs.

Unglazed ceramic tiles keep the natural look of the clay from which it is made.  These tiles are common in outdoor areas.

Glazed tiles are ceramic tiles that have been coated with a combination of frit (ground glass) and metallic oxides (the glaze itself).  With a wide array of colors and finishes, these tiles have a multitude of uses.

Porcelain tile is made from a white clay and fired hotter and longer than any other ceramic tiles.  These tiles are extremely durable.

Terra-cotta tiles are the least durable of the ceramic tile, but if you’re looking for a rustic appearance, these tiles are for you.

Mosaic tiles are any tiles smaller than six inches.  These smaller tiles are often used to create decorative or artful floor designs. [Read more…]

Here are a few tips to keep your ceramic tile flooring looking as good as new well into the future.

Use Mats and Rugs

If you have ceramic tile near an entrance – front or back door, or near a garage entrance – use a mat or rug to collect dirt as you enter from the outside. Shake them out often, or wash them regularly. Make sure the back offers a non-slip surface to avoid dangerous situations. [Read more…]
