Today, the trend is moving towards eco-friendly ways to clean your home. More people are frowning on purchasing harmful chemicals and looking for just-as-effective alternatives. They are finding products that claim to be friendly to the environment, as well as the people and pets in your home.

If you want to take your eco-friendly cleaning a step further, consider what you use to clean your carpets. A simple solution of vinegar and water could do the trick.

Kids’ Messes – Everyone has been there at one point or another – crayons, markers or glue on the carpet. You probably think it is a lost cause – do not despair! For crayons, all it takes is vinegar, a toothbrush and a little elbow grease to rub the stain right out. Glue might take a little longer with a vinegar and water solution spread on the stain. After a few minutes, blot the glue up.

Food Messes – Ketchup, chocolate, coffee and soda are all common culprits to stain the rug. Luckily, with a mixture of 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar, the stains should come right up. How To Silence a Squeaky Floor

Whether your home is fairly new or many years old, it is not uncommon to have issues with squeaky floors. Squeaky floors can be quite annoying – imagine trying to go to sleep at night, only to hear your kids as they squeak back and forth between rooms.

In some cases, the squeaks can get progressively worse, to the point where they become more than just a nuisance, but an indicator of a more serious structural problem. Addressing the problem of a squeaky floor right away will help to ensure that you do not have to make more costly repairs later.

The squeak is usually caused from one of two things: the subfloors rubbing against each other or it may be the floor joists. When nails come loose, the subfloors and/or floor joists can move and rub, making the squeak. You may be able to fix the squeak on your own with 4-inch screws. You can screw these into the location where the floor is squeaking to tighten the subflooring.

The Different Ways to Install Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring adds aesthetic appeal and value to your home. Many homeowners are turning to hardwood for its beauty, as well as its durability. It is easy to take care of and easy to install. There are several different methods of installation that can be used. The method you choose should be based on your personal preference.

The two methods that use specific tools to secure your floor are nailing or stapling the wood floor down. In order to nail down your flooring, you will need a manual flooring nailer or a pneumatic nailing gun. The most common type of nail to use is the 2-inch nailing cleat. In order to staple your flooring, you will need a pneumatic nailing gun that can install staples that are 1 ½ – 2 inches long.

If you prefer to use a method that does not use a nailing gun, you can glue down engineered wood flooring. It is important to use the precise adhesive that is recommended by the manufacturer of your flooring. Choosing a less expensive alternative could void your warranty on your floor. The glue is simply applied to the subflooring with a trowel and the engineered wood floor or parquet is then placed on top of it.
